At the 2013 SR-7A Conclave, the section partnered with a non-profit organization called the Society of St. Andrew whose mission is to end hunger in the United States for the inaugural Conclave Service Project. That Conclave Service Project was highly successful and resulted in over 84,000 pounds of surplus sweet potatoes being bagged during Conclave for the benefit of numerous Virginia food banks and church food pantries. At three servings per pound, these efforts yielded 250,000 servings to benefit the hungry of Surry County, Virginia and the surrounding areas.
For the 2014 Conclave Service Project, SR-7A has partnered with the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, MD and during Conclave weekend, arrowmen will have the opportunity to spend 20 or 30 minutes assembling care packages for recently wounded and injured military service members who are being treated at Walter Reed. A total of 6,000 care packages will be assembled during Conclave and these care packages will include a wide array of items, from snacks to reading and writing materials, designed to make these soldiers’ stay at Walter Reed more comfortable. The list of items to be included in these care packages was developed in close consultation with the Walter Reed staff.
The section is seeking donations to help offset the cost of purchasing supplies for the care packages and well as the cost of transporting these care packages. All monies donated for the Service Project will only be used for offsetting costs associated with the Conclave Service Project. Donations are tax deductible and your support of our nation’s heroes is greatly appreciated.
