Beale Memorial Church, Tappahannock

Outdoor: Friday, Saturday, & Sunday, September 22, 23, 24, 2017

Training Starts at 6:00 PM on September 22 at the Scout Hut in Tappahannock

Scout Leader Specific Training is for anyone interested in becoming a Scoutmaster, an Assistant Scoutmaster or a Committee Member of a troop. This training is also beneficial for Webelos leaders and Venture leaders. Note that completion of this course is required for all Scoutmasters and Assistant Scoutmasters rechartering. It is designed to train new Scout leaders as well as to update long time Scout leaders in the new initiatives being implemented by BSA. This training is a prerequisite for leaders aspiring to attend the Wood Badge Training Course, the highest level of training BSA has to offer leaders in scouting at the local council level. Anyone who has not taken the course within the past five years, is encouraged to attend for the benefit of the unit.

The training is taught in two sessions, a one day indoor session and a weekend outdoor session. Both sessions are required to be considered ‘trained.’

The indoor session is designed to strengthen Scout leadership skills. It is aimed at increasing comfort level and confidence as a trained leader. The program gives the opportunity to work with other Scout leaders from around the area, meet new friends, and reinforce skills with fellow unit leaders. Topics covered are the role of the Scoutmaster, troop organization, the patrol method, membership, paperwork, finance, uniforms, and more.

Scout Leader Outdoor Skills Training is designed to help leaders become comfortable with the camping skills required for Tenderfoot to First Class ranks. Experienced instructors will teach how to set up camp, cook, work with woods tools, tie knots, administer first aid, and plan campfire programs. You/p>

The cost for both sessions is $50.00. This includes the training materials, snacks, lunch (indoors session) and ingredients to cook lunch on Saturday of the outdoor session. All other meals will be provided by the patrol members. All patrol members will be expected to share in the cost of food.

It is recommended that this $50.00 fee be paid by the unit’s treasury. The investment will prove to be priceless.

Registration ends August 22.
