Scout Leader Specific Training is for anyone interested in becoming a Scoutmaster, an Assistant Scoutmaster, a Committee Member of a Troop and others interested in knowing more about the Boy Scout program.
Every Scout Deserves A Trained Leader and this course provides one of the three components needed in order to best serve your Scouts and have a Program that fulfills the mission of the Boy Scouts of America.
FYI: In order to be fully trained, Scouters are required to complete:
1)         Scoutmaster and Asst. Scoutmaster Position-Specific (this one-day course),
2)         Introduction to Outdoor Leadership Skills (participants need to sign up separately for this course),
3)         Youth Protection Training (also available online).

Troop Committee Challenge (for committee members: also available online)
Upon completion of these four components, a Scouter is considered fully trained.

Course Description:
The session’s purpose is to provide an engaging experience for new and experienced Scoutmasters to learn and apply proven techniques for running an effective Boy Scout troop. It is aimed at increasing comfort level and confidence as a trained leader. The course gives the opportunity to work with other Scout leaders from around the area, meet new friends, and reinforce skills with fellow unit leaders. Topics covered are the role of the Scoutmaster, troop organization, the patrol method, membership, paperwork, finance, uniforms, and more.
Prerequisites:
BSA recommends you complete Youth Protection Training and Boy Scout Leader Fast Start. While the Fast Start course is not required to be a “trained” leader, new leaders will find it an excellent introduction to Scouting -- both can be found at www.MyScouting.org.
